Sony Ericsson Cup Match 6: Offu beat Male' Sports by 6 wickets

OFFU FC sprang the surprise of the tournament by beating Male' Sports by 6 wickets in the 6th match of the Sony Ericsson Cup. The margin of defeat does not do justice to OFFU who displayed a spirited performance in the filed after having won the toss. Male' Sports lost their first wicket, that of Ali Niyaz in bizarre fashion as his helmet fell on the wicket. The team score was just 15. Wickets fell in quick succession after their key batsman Nadheem was brilliantly bowled out by a slow ball from one the most promising player of the tournament Jilwaz Rasheed. Male' Sports lost their next 5 wickets for just 10 runs. Mohamed Nasir and Mohamed Faisal tried to revive the batting making 12 and 13 runs respectively. Fayyaz Ali was the only other player to reach double figures with 12 runs. In the end they were all out for 73 in 27.4 overs.

The total was never going to test OFFU as they made the deficit in 17.3 overs. However, Male' Sports with their strong bowling line up were never going to give up without a fight. They came strongly at OFFU and took 4 wickets, with Mohamed Shafeeg taking 2 wickets for 28 in 6 overs. Jilwaz top scored with 21 runs.
